Vista deployment tool boosts IT management

Strong compliance management features deliver more than an OS upgrade

November 30, 2006 Boston, MA, USA

ManageSoft Corporation is pleased to announce its Vista Management bundle, an integrated set of tools and services to simplify the process of preparing for, deploying, and managing Windows Vista.

Unlike competitive offerings, the ManageSoft Vista Management offering takes a "whole of business" approach—extending well beyond OS installation and migration to deliver comprehensive data for decision-making and support for ongoing business-critical processes such as license and compliance management.

The Vista Management bundle streamlines the initial data gathering and planning phases of Vista migration, and provides tools to both simplify the deployment process and provide ongoing support for managing the PC lifecycle and ensuring licensing and regulatory compliance.

Control before, during, and after migration

The process of migrating to Windows Vista starts with identifying the hardware on which Vista will be installed, determining whether it meets Vista specifications, and planning any necessary hardware upgrades. If enterprises have existing data about hardware and software, from a source such as Microsoft SMS, this can easily be imported for analysis; or alternatively, enterprises can leverage tools from the Vista Management bundle to gather hardware and software data across an entire network without requiring software installation on the desktops (true zero-touch). After analyzing available data, ManageSoft provides Vista-readiness reports on which hardware is Vista-compatible and which requires upgrade or replacement.

Then it's time to identify what software is used across the enterprise, and make sure it's Vista-compatible. ManageSoft Vista-readiness reports simplify the process of identifying what software has already been tested, and which needs compatibility testing with Vista. At this point, enterprises can also leverage ManageSoft to verify license compliance, standardize a list of approved software titles, and update standard operating environments (SOEs).

If upgrading or replacing existing devices, ManageSoft can capture user data and settings for migration. Finally it is time to deploy Windows Vista, install the necessary applications, and (if necessary) restore user data and settings. ManageSoft is fully integrated with the Microsoft WIM Ximage technology and uses USMT to migrate user data and settings. It automates the data capture and Vista deployment processes, allowing administrators to perform hands-free migrations, even at remote locations.

Remain in control

After migration, ManageSoft offers ongoing management, automatically applying software updates and self-healing "broken" configurations or applications. ManageSoft continues to provide up-to-the-minute reporting about applications installed and used, license compliance, and more, meaning enterprises are always ready for a software audit and can readily understand software usage. Financial reporting requirements are satisfied by a central record of hardware and software assets, including complete details and history of purchasing data. Full audit trails and links to strategic documents such as contracts and licenses help meet regulatory requirements.

About the ManageSoft Vista Management bundle

The ManageSoft Vista Management bundle consists of three products from the ManageSoft suite including ManageSoft Compliance Manager, for data analysis and readiness assessments; ManageSoft Deployment Manager, for software deployment and ongoing management; and ManageSoft Windows Deployment, for operating system deployment.
