InfoWeek names ManageSoft as best-of-breed
Product test with seven competing solutions puts ManageSoft as #1
December 18, 2006 Boston, MA, USA
ManageSoft is named winner in a recent seven-product benchmark of lifecycle management solutions bridging both Windows and Linux platforms. The benchmark was conducted by independent publisher InfoWeek, and appeared in InfoWeek Online in November.
InfoWeek included both Windows and Linux clients, stating that Linux is a hot topic for many organizations, especially with the recent Microsoft announcement of cooperation with Novell. Since management of heterogeneous client environments has a number of inherent challenges, the publisher evaluated which products best combined management of both Linux and Windows environments.
Of the seven products tested, ManageSoft gained top marks in all three categories of functionality, ease of use, and value for money, giving it the best overall score. ManageSoft manages clients running various forms of Linux, UNIX, Macintosh and all versions of Windows since 3.1.
The review praises ManageSoft for built-in support of separate test and production environments, which facilitates thorough testing before deploying anything to users. ManageSoft supports ITIL-compliant management, and includes best practice processes to help organizations optimize internal software management processes.
InfoWeek goes on to highlight another key ManageSoft differentiator - explicit support for security patch management for Linux systems. The article also underlined the need to go beyond traditional software deployment, into areas like license and compliance management. ManageSoft provides unparalleled functionality in these areas, with support for multiple license types; links to purchase orders and contracts, and full asset management for software and hardware.
To qualify, candidate products had to offer similar processes for managing different platforms, and cover operating system deployment, software deployment, patch management, and additional features such as remote control. The seven products included in the benchmark test were:
- Altiris 6 Client/Server Management Suite
- Asdis Enterprise Management ACM 5.1
- CA Unicenter Desktop and Server Management
- LANdesk Management Suite 8.7
- ManageSoft release 7.8 (winner)
- Matrix42 Empirum 2005
- Novell ZENworks Linux Management 7
Says Michael Carabetta, CEO of ManageSoft Corporation, "As enterprises expand their use of Linux desktops and servers, as well as Mac devices, the ability to support a heterogeneous environment is increasingly important. We're pleased to be recognized by InfoWeek as the best in lifecycle management solutions."
