ManageSoft Launches Enterprise Compliance Manager 8.0
Enables Significant IT Spend Reductions in First 90 Days
BOSTON, MA, December 3, 2008, ManageSoft—the leading provider of desktop to datacenter software asset management (SAM) solutions—announced today that its new Enterprise Compliance Manager™ (ECM) version 8.0 software has been released. This new edition will enable enterprises to achieve up to seven figure savings on their IT spend within 90 days of implementing ECM. Aggregate savings comes from three areas of concentration—reducing new software purchases, squeezing maintenance renewals, and compliance before audits.
Unlike software asset management tools that stop short at software inventory and application recognition, ECM goes to the next level by accounting for software publisher usage rights, importing purchase order data, and measuring the actual use of applications. This superior reconciliation allows license optimization across software publishers—where the money is hidden—to uncover latent savings.
ECM’s three-pronged attack on IT spend, starts with reconciling purchased versus installed software in an IT estate to clean house on unlicensed applications and eliminate shelfware. The second foray examines software usage data to expose where purchased applications are installed, but under-utilized. Licenses can then be reallocated to defer new license purchases. The third and most powerful assault on over-spending is optimization against the software publisher’s license terms and conditions to take full advantage of usage rights and eliminate over-licensing.
“In this challenging economic climate, companies need tools like ECM that can reconcile many data streams and apply complex licensing rules to dramatically reduce IT expenditures,” noted Alan Swahn, ManageSoft's vice president of marketing and business development. “The definition of effective software asset management must be expanded to include license and contract optimization, where ManageSoft uniquely stands out.”
Technology Enablers
ECM 8.0 has several new options that are firsts in the SAM industry—support for Oracle database license management, a VMware® server virtualization option, and a 100,000+ purchase order Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) library. The Oracle option provides discovery and inventory of Oracle database instances and options across an estate to provide data to the ECM license compliance engine. The VMware feature automates discovery and inventory of VMware ESX and VirtualCenter servers, collects inventory for all the related virtual machines, and applies license entitlement rules. The SKU library normalizes purchase order data so that each line item is recognized as a specific version and/or edition of a software application or suite. It also automates the process of linking purchase order data to software inventory data to determine purchased versus installed compliance.
