ManageSoft Announces Top Tips for Organizations Facing an IT Audit

International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers Hosts Top Tips Webinar on May 28th

BOSTON, MA, April 16, 2009The software asset management (SAM) experts at ManageSoft today announced their top tips for surviving an IT audit. In the current economic climate, software publishers are increasing the frequency and rigor of software audits to preserve their revenue. While audits typically produce a significant return on investment for publishers, they can consume a considerable amount of an IT organization’s time. Many organizations are unprepared for an audit and suffer the consequences of out-of-budget true-up expenses and potential penalties.

The ManageSoft tips include:

  1. Review the contract to understand audit terms and conditions
  2. Make sure the software and hardware inventory is up to date
  3. Keep proofs of purchase and licensing agreements ready for inspection
  4. Demonstrate that licensing rules are understood and applied
  5. Explain what SAM policies and procedures are in place
  6. Don’t remove software from computers; don’t start a shopping spree
  7. Automate software asset management

ManageSoft is kicking off a Top Tips webinar series in May and IAITAM will host the first event — Top Tips for Surviving an Audit on May 28th. To register, please visit the ManageSoft website at: www.ManageSoft.com/company/webcasts.cfm

“Our mission is to provide professional skills development and support to grow and improve the IT Asset Management industry by establishing best practice standards that include areas such as IT spend management, license compliance, risk reduction and improved ITAM program performance,” said Lynne Weiss, VP sales & marketing at IAITAM. “We are pleased to be hosting a joint webinar with ManageSoft on the topic of audit readiness.”

“There are many priorities for an IT organization and, unfortunately, many businesses don’t appreciate the financial and operational benefits that can be realized from an automated software asset management program, so it’s often not the highest priority,” said John Emmitt, director of business development, ManageSoft. “However, IT organizations are starting to see that SAM can provide fast payback. In our Top Tips webinar, we will show how organizations benefit by maintaining software license compliance and audit readiness. This includes having a better negotiating position with software vendors, and the elimination of unbudgeted license expenses.”
